Spring is in the air!

We'll start by saying that we had a wonderful Féile an tSneachta and we are thankful of everyone who too part. Our summer immersion week will be happening in August and we would love to see ye there. More information will be coming, but the week is scheduled for the 8-12th of August, make note.

Other projects

Firstly, during Seachtain na Gaeilge, an annual celebration encouraging the sole use of Irish, we worked with Celbridge middle school in Co. Kildare to make a video about our Gaeltacht to show to the students there that Irish is a global language.

Our library collection is growing and our team is working to establish a method to deliver books through the mail - if anyone has experience in this area we would love to hear from you.

We are working to create a directory, a directory of teachers and Irish language groups. We will hopefully have more to say on this in the coming months, available through our website.

The Gaeltacht Online Store will be open shortly, working with Spreadshirt to offer Gaelic goods. This shop will be available through our website directly very shortly.

The PR team is working to arrange specific pub nights in the Ottawa area, evenings where Irish will be spoken. When the details are arranged, there will be a recurrent weekday and time announced.

With that news, we have another matter to raise. As stated in the business plan we will be discussing establishing a paid membership model, so that there will be a more stable income for our activities and to offer new services. If someone does not purchase a membership, I'm adamant that there will be no change or reduction in services, but paid members will receive new benefits throughout the year. There will be a survey going out in mid-April to get feedback and opinions and we will have a system to discuss by the AGM in June.

We are truly grateful of everyone working diligently on the meithleacha (working groups) - we could not do a fraction of this without their help. We are a very small team and we would be welcoming of anyone who has interest in providing a helping hand, whether or not you have a specific skill or speak Irish. Be in touch with us at info@gaeilge.ca and take a direct role in the revival of Irish today.
