Standing Meeting for Volunteers

First Sunday of each month, 7pm

January 7 (Little Christmas)

February 4

March 3

We are pleased to announce a new, once-a-month, standing meeting for our working groups and volunteers (and those thinking of volunteering). In these meetings, the objectives will be discussed as will the tasks that require help. These virtual sessions will foster collaboration, inspire innovative ideas, and strengthen your connections with fellow volunteers. We sincerely hope that this opportunity will encourage more individuals to volunteer for our working groups. Together, we can achieve remarkable outcomes and make a lasting impact on our organization and the community we serve.

Summer Irish Immersion Week

August 12-17, 2024

We are pleased to confirm the date for our summer immersion course. Registration will open in March. Please contact us if you do not wish to camp and need help finding local accommodations.

November Immersion (Recap)

We were so happy to see everyone for our November immersion series. In all, we had 34 ticket sales and made over $900 for our non-profit. We want to give a big thank you to our instructors, students, and planning committee for making this event a success!

Website Updates

We're thrilled with the support shown to our annual membership program at Gaeltacht an Oileáin Úir, and our new learning website. Our goal is to seamlessly connect language and culture, enabling learners to explore topics that genuinely captivate their interest. Your membership directly supports our efforts to promote the Irish language, including organizing immersive events throughout the year.

We are just about to launch a new and greatly expanded section on the Irish Language in Canada, featuring over 90 compositions from across 300 years of Canada’s history. Up until this goes live in March, website members will begin to get a preview of the material as Dónall trials the code.

We thank everyone who contacted the University of Toronto administration concerning the planned changes to the Celtic Studies Program. The University has not responded to the board in any manner, though I know they have emailed some members claiming the concerns are misguided. Despite that claim, the story has been taken up by Tuairisc.ie: ‘Buille tubaisteach’ don Léann Ceilteach a bheadh i bplean fáil réidh le teagasc teangacha

If you happen to be in Ottawa, there is an open “Oíche Ghaeilge” conversation group which meets on Thursdays every other week, at Brigid’s Well Pub, 310 St. Patrick St, Ottabha. Speakers of all levels are welcome, from fully fluent to complete beginner. Other speakers gather at 7pm. This event is free of charge.
